Yesterday, I went to a Book Release Party for Deborah Hall Branch. She's one of the members a former writers' group. Check out, for you, or someone else, Through the Eyes of Abuseby Deborah Hall-Branch.
"The author illustrates how to gain a godly persistence to survive, find freedom for the future, and eventually live a healthy, vibrant life. This is the story of a woman who suffered much and tells of her own abuse."
I know Deborah as a warm, spiritual, and supportive woman. I can't wait to read her book. I remember during the Writer Group days, when she first began revealing this personal story, and getting glimpsesof her past. None of which was indicative of the woman that sat before me. She is so gracefull, that I never imagined scars of an emotional past.
It was great seeing my colleagues and contemporaries. :)
My buddy Jackie was there. I've known her since 8th grade. She followed her heart, and actually went to college for what she loves. Writing! While I've been job surfing my entire adult life, she's been scrapping away at her trade. Working as a Writer for several papers and institutions.
The Leader of our group was Denise "Chicki" Brown. In addition to being an accomplished editor with years of experience, she's a romance writer. I once had the pleasure of being a test audience for one of her books. Amazing! I've never been caught up on any genre, good is good, bad is bad. The few Romance Books I've ever enjoyed were from Eric Jerome Dickey, and a small handfull of others. But Chicki... her work is superb. I can't wait till her agent is able to get her work out to the masses. (There is a group of women at my job that swap out Romance Novels... they would devour her literary works.)
My buddy Jessia was there. I han't seen her in a year. Last year, Labor Day Weekend for the Decatur Book Festival to be exact. She's now a full time student, full time employee, as well as full time mother. (Reminds me of my sister.) Two years from now, Jessia will have another degree.
This week, has been really interesting. It's been invigorating. To see the old gang, felt like going back to the Round Table of Camelot. So I've given myself a start date for my next project. November 1st.
I have some goals I want to accomplish first:
Study and pass a test for career advancement
Transfer to a different office @ work
Pay off a small loan
Get hardwood floors (either African Santos or Brazillian Hardwood)
Get a PS3
Get a Laptop
Get a new Sofa
Complete my Aquarium
If I could express how I'm feeling, I would have to get on stage and act out a scene from Excalibur.
